About the Coffee Producers

This coffee was purchased through Cafe Imports who sourced the coffee from the Worka Cooperative which operates the Halo Fafate Washing Station in Gedeb. The station serves around 900 smallholder farmers from the local region who mostly grow garden-size plots to supplement their income as well as for personal use.

Due to the way the Ethiopian Coffee Exchange functions, most coffees in Ethiopia are typically traceable to the washing station level. Most of these are supplied by smallholder farms with less than 1/2 hectare and as little as 1/8 hectare of land on average who delivery cherry for a market rate. The coffees are then processed into lots without retaining information on where each coffee was produced.

We believe in the work they do in building sustainable purchasing relationships with all of their producers, including emerging privately and cooperatively owned farms as well as direct washing-station relationships that will allow increased single-producer traceability.

About the Brand
Hatchet Coffee Roasters is based in Boon, North Carolina. They pride themselves on sourcing their coffee blends with high ethical standards and paying their producers on average 3-4x more than even fair trade price level.
